Laser Peels - the PIXEL laser

A laser peel is a technique to remove the upper layers of the skin. A laser is used to remove the top layer of the skin. The depth of the peel depends on the laser power settings and the number of passes used. As the skin heals, it has a more youthful look. Many different types of lasers exist. Most studies have shown that the CO2 and erbium 'ablative' lasers give the best results, but more 'down time' is involved.

An exciting development is the fractionated erbium laser peel. With this new laser, the laser targets only a fraction of the skin surface (hence the name). The laser penetrates the skin at many small pinpoints, stimulating the collagen in the deep layers. The recovery is much quicker than with standard CO2. Dr. Most features the Pixel laser system. We also offer intense-pulsed light (IPL) and non-laser skin tightening treatments.

Goals of the laser peel

Depending on the depth of the peel, one can see improvement in skin wrinkes, more youthful texture, and more even coloration. The treatments most often given are to the wrinkles around the mouth (perioral), around the eyes (periorbital) or full face.

How long will the results last?

This is a difficult question to answer. The areas treated show rejuvenation, but the amount varies patient-to-patient, and also depends on the depth of the peel. Once the result is obtained, the treated areas do continue to age, but the results are permanent in the sense that one would look improved in these areas when compared to how one would have looked without the treatment.

The Procedure

The procedure can be done in the office or the procedure room, depending on the depth of the peel and the area to be treated. Patients may expect a variable period of skin peeling pinkness after the procedure, depending on what type of laser treatment is used. Care of the skin is very important during this period, and our staff are expert at guiding patients through this process.
